There was one story about the elder of twin brothers, who was reported as a senator to have made contributions to the country while, the next day, another story appeared about the younger brother, a murderer sentenced to life imprisonment.
When asked in an interview about the reason for his success, the elder brother said: "my father indulged himself in gambling, so he often came home drunk and hit us." Then he sighed and added, "What could I do growing up in this environment?" What he meant was that one has to work hard and strive for success with no one else’s help.
Asked about the reason for his crime, the younger brother innocently gave the same answer, meaning that his criminal behavior was not his fault but, rather, his father’s abuse.
Two different modes of thinking determine two different kinds of lives.
Putting thought to something is very important, without which the answer may be wrong. Life without any consideration about it must be dull. Thinking in a correct way, which means right thought, is vitally important for success and happiness.
Thinking correctly before doing things, we will be clear and bright in our heart. Everyone will be confronted with different people and things and deal with all kinds of relations. So we must analyze what we do by correct thinking, without which nothing can be successful. On the contrary, having a goal clearly in mind gives us power. To make our target clear, we will have to think clearly about that as well as all our goals in life.
There is alternatively prosperity and adversity in everyone’s life. Prosperity will turn into adversity if it is handled in a wrong way. However, adversity also can change into prosperity if dealt with rightly. This is similar to riding on a highway. Though the ride may be smooth and steady, without care, we are likely to get distracted and have an accident. Otherwise, we will be careful and drive safely. The one or the other depends on our mental state and not on the condition of the road.
Such is life. Keep preparing ourselves for possible difficulties, and we will have the courage to overcome them. When we get ill or face adversity, if we deal with them in a negative and passive way, sooner or later we will encounter pain. On the other hand, if we react in a positive and optimistic way, we can be happy. Actually, both pain and happiness are rooted in your heart.
