The magazine truly recorded the landscape of Chinese Buddhism during that period and is of extreme historical value. After BAC was established in 1953, it became its official journal. In November of 1960, Modern Buddhism was changed from a monthly into a bimonthly journal. In 1964 under the influence of the extreme-Leftists, the publication was forced to terminate. By then a total number of 144 issues were published. The magazine resumed publication in 1981 and was renamed "The Voice of Dharma".
