It was so impressive how the experts and translators understood and do translation. The volunteers’ unselfish powerful contributions also made me touched and ashamed. But the really shocking part was the manner and spirit of the youngest members of the Sangha, which overwhelmed me completely. During these days, I benefited so much that I wished to share my journey. I hope my report would benefit all the friends who are curious or care about Longquan monastery.

In the past seven-day vacation, Longquan Monastery held its once-yearly Land and water Dharma assembly, of which the full name is "the Sacred and Worldly Land and Water Universal Enlightenment and Fasting Festival." It is thus named because the ceremony releases all the ghosts of land and water from purgatory and relieves all the living creatures in the six realms of existence. It is also called "land and water Buddhist field", "land and water grand ceremony", "land and water ceremony" and "land and water fasting". The duration often ranges from seven days to forty nine days. One part of this assembly is the foreign forum including the second English translators’ communication conference. I was so honored to take part in this activity as a volunteer in charge of all the hosting activities. I was also assigned to receive & interview two scholars.

The reason why we could experience such close contact with the Sangha this time, is that the Sangha decided to give great support for this foreign forum, taking on the great burden of being disturbed in their everyday practice. Many venerables gave speeches and conducted morning lessons, chanted English sutras, led walking meditation, and interacted face-to-face with us.
