On January 18th, 2011, Beijing Longquan Monastery Translation Center was officially established. Its predecessor was The Translation Team. With the merciful authorization of Ven. Master Xuecheng, the Buddhist abbot of Beijing Longquan Monastery, and the personal leadership of Master Wuguang, a succession of tasks on multi-lingual translation is already in progress for better circulation and understanding of the Buddhist Dharma. From China, U.S.A, U.K, France, Germany, Russia, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other countries or regions throughout the world, there are nearly 300 part-timers and full-timers in voluntary service of the grand mission, taking charge of the translation of many Buddhist classics across a dozen of languages and some other materials as well, the arrangement of Dharma assemblies, and the extensive communication with foreign countries.

The sub-branches of the Translation Center are multi-lingual assembly, multi-lingual education and multi-lingual translation.

The Multi-lingual Assembly

Buddhist talents, especially translators, need the edification of Buddhist thoughts as the cornerstone of spreading the religious doctrine widely. Since January 1st, 2011, Beijing Longquan Monastery began organizing the multi-lingual sub-assemblies on the basis of the traditional one. The multi-lingual assemblies encompass a wide range of the Buddhist festivals and traditional festivals of vital importance, with such colorful activities as multi-lingual chanting, the experience of morning and evening courses, Masters’ discourses, meditation, farming in the Land-Heart Farmhouse, multi-cultural forums and so forth.

Multi-lingual Education

Multi-Lingual education targets at cultivating the international talents at translating and circulating Buddhist classics. Started by some lecturers, some Buddhist study groups came into being. The groups combine the further investigations on Buddhism with the training programs of translation, helping the translators with better academic knowledge and looking for devoted translators for the Translation Center.

Multi-lingual translation

After being cultivated by our training program, in the main, the talent people translate the discourses given by Ven. Master Xuecheng on the multi-lingual Weibo and put the various books and multi-media products published by Longquan Monastery into other languages, in service of the oversea Buddhist communication.

Nowadays, the Longquan Monastery, along with Chinese Buddhism even Chinese culture, is actively exploring how we can inherit and develop our traditional culture, and concurrently manifest the universal value of Buddhism. This is also the responsibility for Chinese Buddhism to function. The Translation Center is one of the forerunners in this field, which is originally devoted to paving a way for the circulation of Chinese culture.

In the future, inwardly, the Translation Center will focus on the organization, standardization and specification of its development; and outwardly, it will fuse Buddhist spirits, Buddhist theories and Buddhist doctrines with modern life, modern society and modern civilization in order to better develop Chinese Buddhism. As is expected by Ven. Master Xuecheng, the Translation Center will gather the Buddhist strength, play an active part in service of human beings and human society, and share with the all living creatures the Buddha Dharma throughout the world.
