The Foundation is guided by the philosophy of "promoting philanthropic culture and spirit by helping those in poverty and need" and the idea proposed by Ven. Master Xuecheng: "Charity is to practice good deeds for yourself, because by helping others, you are also helping yourself; and when others succeed with your help, you also succeed. So don’t take charity as some relief services." In terms of charity programs, the Foundation has built "one centre and two platforms": Ren Ai disaster relief centre, Ren Ai Citizen Charity Experience Platform, and Ren Ai Life Education Platform.

In October 2006, Beijing Ren Ai Charity Foundation was set up upon registration at Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau. The Foundation, guided by the philosophy of "promoting philanthropic culture and spirit by helping those in poverty and need" and the idea proposed by Ven. Master Xuecheng: "Charity is to practice good deeds for yourself, because by helping others, you are also helping yourself; and when others succeed with your help, you also succeed. So don't take charity as some relief services" , is meant to build a platform that encourages the widest participation and materialize the vision of "available and accessible charity to all".

In terms of charity programs, the Foundation has built "one centre and two platforms": Ren Ai disaster relief centre , Ren Ai Citizen Charity Experience Platform and Ren Ai Life Education Platform.

The Disaster Relief Centre aims at aligning diverse relief providers to form a comprehensive relief alliance with multiple capabilities. It was designed as a supplement to the mainstream relief provided by the government, a coordinator of non-government organizations, a service provider and company for disaster-stricken people. By providing close and continuous care, especially which may have been neglected by other channels, the centre divides relief work into four stages, including rescue, emergency response, general assistance, and relief. Since 2007, it has provided assistance to Kai County of Chongqing (landslide), south Anhui Province (snow and frozen), Mianzhu and Dujiangyan of Sichuan Province (earthquake), Beichuan of Sichuan Province (landslide), Yushu of Qinghai Province (earthquake), Zhouqu of Gansu Province (landslide), Yingjiang of Yunnan Province (earthquake), Yaan of Sichuan Province (earthquake), Shantou of Guangdong Province (flood), etc. Total input amounted to more than 30 million yuan.

Ren Ai Citizen Charity Experience Platform was designed to offer an opportunity for ordinary citizens to play a role in charity work so they can experience for themselves. The platform has six initiatives now, including clothes donation, scholarship, free porridge of love, mind development, Filial Virtue Award, and Ren Ai Memorial Fund.

The Life Education Platform, integrating ancient Chinese meritocratic education philosophy with modern education science, neuroscience, and psychology, has developed six programs targeting on different stages in life on the basis of the Confucius five-stage-life concept that each stage develops different themes: toddlers--nature, children--integrity, adolescence--ambition, adults—virtue, and elderly—happiness. The six programs are: parenting club, Ren Ai Ambassador Initiative for university students, Heart Culture of Companies, Longquan Hotline, Sihe Ren Ai community service centre, and elderly care.

The Foundation was acclaimed as a 5A NGO by Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau. It has attracted nearly 10,000 volunteers to dedicate their time and efforts into its programs and initiatives, benefiting directly or indirectly more than 700,000 people, making a solid contribution to the society.

Program Introduction:

(1)Ren Ai Scholarship

It is targeted on mid school, high school, and university students whose parents have both deceased, or cannot provide care to them because of family reorganization or serious diseases. The scholarship not only provides pecuniary assistance, but also offers care in the form of correspondence, visits, and interactive parties, all carried out by a team of volunteers. By the end of 2013, it has helped more than 800 students from Beijing, Hebei, and Anhui.

(2) Ren Ai clothes donation

Used clothes are carefully selected, stored, and handed out to receivers according to their gender, age, height, etc. Volunteers, when preparing these clothes for handing out, experience great satisfaction from being so considerate to other people's needs. Many company employees, students, and civil servants found it very attractive and joined the volunteer team.

(3) Ren Ai Xin Zhan-free porridge of love

Free porridge has been a long-standing practice among Buddhists, who in times of famine would give out free porridge to poor people. Now in modern cities, as many people rushing to work on the morning or waiting for bus in the station have no time to have a decent breakfast, the program offers free porridge to them. Inspired by the kindness, people who received the porridge would carry on the spirit into their daily routines. Now seven Xin Zhan has been set up in such cities as Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Yaan, attracting more than 10,000 volunteers each year, giving out more than 300,000 cups of porridge.

(4) Ren Ai Mind Development

Targeting on companies and schools, it includes projects such as porridge offering, clothes donation, scholarship partying, low income family visit, farming, and guided watch of films. The program aims at inspiring people to let out their kind nature. Besides companies and schools, it also plans to include teachers, parents, and school presidents into the recipients.

(5) Ren Ai Elderly care

The program offers a platform for the elderly to help each other, physically and mentally. Apart from regular team activities such as chorus, Fu Tian Team, and sutras chanting, diverse events are held on Chongyang Festival (the Double Nine Festival) to show care and love to the elderly. It's also a good opportunity for the young people to do good things.

(6) Ren Ai Filial Virtue Award

Filial virtue is the core of China's traditional culture. To promote it, the Foundation set up this award in mid school and elementary school, encouraging students to show respect and care to teachers and family members so that they understand the importance of being grateful and filial.

(7) Longquan Hotline

Volunteers pick up phones and listen to people's troubles, grievances, and worries. By providing comfort and sound suggestions, they help people relieve pressure, find confidence, and seek happiness.
