Beijing Longquan Monastery aims to cultivate monastics who excel in “aspiration, cultivation, ability, merit and knowledge” and establish a pure, harmonious and progressive Sangha, centered in talent cultivation and based on the consolidation of faith and monastic ethos.

The Sangha has inherited the quintessence of the traditional monastic system while absorbing the characteristics of modern Buddhist institutional education. In terms of teaching mode, it learns from Buddhist institutions, requiring monks to study in classes, attend Dharma lectures in groups and have in-depth discussion of sutras and treatises; With regard to practice, it follows the traditional monastic regular practices including morning and evening recitations, sutra chanting, and repentances bowing, etc. Following Vinaya as the teacher, the whole Sangha puts strict requirements on monks in line with the precepts and holds activities such as having karmic meetings, reciting precepts and holding summer retreat, and living peacefully and harmoniously together. It has also established a management system suitable to modern society.

No allowance is issued in the Sangha. Money offered by devotees must be handed into the Sangha. Except a few executive monks who do need cell phones to handle monastic affairs will be allocated cell phones by monastery, individual monastic cannot own cell phones so as to secure the tranquility of both body and mind for study and practice in a pure environment. Monks and lay people should do labor work and undertake various monastic affairs. During assemblies, they should organize and guide devotees to study Buddhism. The Sangha’s study, cultivation and work are so directed as to help “cultivate the mind through real-life encounters.” In this way, they can bring convergence into the Buddha Dharma and mundane dharma, self-cultivation and team development and benefiting oneself as well as others.

The learning and practice management mode is carried out in both hierarchical and horizontal ways, with Bhikshus, Shramaneras and Postulant taking classes at different levels, while opening courses based on interest and specialties, such as precepts discussion, Buddhist chanting of prayers, and film and video production.

The whole Sangha demonstrates a positive outlook integrating Buddha Dharma with life, as they rely on Venerable Master to study and practice, they follow the Buddha’s Teachings to maintain harmony and rely on fellow practitioners to make progress.
