The Beijing Longquan Monastery Sangha, embodies a positive, progressive and harmonious outlook, takes the Vinaya as its teacher, disciplines itself according to the Vinaya, engages in intensive group Buddhist learning and practice, and actively integrates Buddha Dharma into its way of life.

In 2005, Beijing Longquan Monastery was restored as  a site of religious activities. Meanwhile the Sangha officially took up residence  and had their first summer retreat from Apr. 15th to Jul. 15th of the lunar calendar. During the retreat, all the monks stayed at monastery and concentrated on studying the precepts. Since then, the monastery has preserved  the tradition of holding a summer retreat every year, and reciting precepts and purifying karma every half a month in accordance with the Buddha Dharma.

Cultivation of belief and Ethos-building are the fundamental principles of Beijing Longquan Monastery. It is committed to training excellent monks with the qualities of aspiration, commitment, morality, talent and knowledge, and establishing a pure, harmonious and progressive Sangha. The Sangha has not only maintains  carries forward the essence of the traditional monasteries, but also absorbs the advantages of  education in modern Buddhist academies. With its unique characteristics and high quality, the Sangha is dedicated to Buddhist learning and practice as well as to preaching Buddhism, and is prized as the modern “New High Quality Model for Monastic Organisation”.

In Buddhist learning, the monastery promotes the teaching style of  Modern Buddhist academies, where monks are required to take classes at each different levels, engage in groups study  Dharma talks, and conduct in-depth research into Buddhist scriptures. In Buddhist practice, monks carry forward the Buddhist traditions, attending daily recitations, worshiping and prostrating before the Buddhas at regular hours. Monks do not receive  salary; nor are they allowed to keep any allowances or offerings to themselves. Moreover monks take part in manual labor, deal with monastery-related affairs and guide Buddhist believers to learn and practice the Dharma during Dharma Assemblies.

The monastic order at Longquan Monastery has developed, through trial and errors, a management system which responds to the call of the times. According to the arrangement of the curriculum, monks are taught according to their individual levels (4 levels in total) in Buddhist cultivation; additionally, they are free to take various courses, according to their interests and specialities, such as Vinaya research, Buddhist chanting, film production. Two administrative systems have been put in place. Following the Vinaya, a hierarchy of monks according to years of ordination is used during religious rituals. A contemporary managerialist system,  is applied on other occasions.
