American Professor Lewis Lancaster visited Beijing Longquan Monastery on September 6th and 7th. This visit was invited and received by Ven. Xianqing, the chief executive of International Communication of our Monastery.

Professor Lancaster was the one of the first and most distinguished scholars in Buddhist research in America at UC Berkeley. He started the digitalizing Buddhist text and used the computer technology to analyze Buddhist text about twenty years ago. One of his present projects is helping edit the English translation of a dictionary of Buddhist terms. His current research is directed toward the production of the “Atlas of Maritime Buddhism”. Though this is his first visit to our Monastery, he showed great interests in our work in the field of translation and editing Chinese Buddhist texts and made suggestions for bilateral cooperation.
