Buddhism doesn’t teach that there is an external god who controls everything. We are responsible for our own destiny. Through studying the Buddha Dharma, we can learn to understand the laws of the universe and life, so that we can make our life better and better. Prostrating to Buddha statues isn't about worshiping their stone or wooden materials, but about paying respect to the knowledge of 'the path' they represent.
